Three years after surviving a vicious chimpanzee mauling in South Africa that nearly took his life, Andrew Oberle joined Saint Louis University to begin leading the Oberle Institute to support others on their own journey from surviving to thriving. He leads several support programs for trauma survivors, their families, and their providers at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, the same hospital that brought him home and helped him start rebuilding his life. Andrew is also a national public speaker and shares his story of how a community of supporters helped him gain the resilience to overcome hardship and turn it into a life of service to others. He hopes sharing his story will inspire others to find the resilience inside themselves as they experience adversity, use it to overcome and thrive, and instill that resilient, thriving spirit in everyone they encounter.
